BHE Renewables manages the Wailuku hydroelectric generation project, a 10-megawatt facility situated at the confluence of the Wailuku River and Kalohewahewa Stream on Hawaii's eastern coast. This run-of-river project operates without dams, utilizing three diversion structures to channel water from the Kalohewahewa Stream to a powerhouse via a 14,760-foot pipeline. The powerhouse is equipped with two 5-megawatt horizontal shaft Pelton turbines, with the generated power transmitted to Hawaii Electric Light Company's system under a long-term agreement. Additionally, BHE Renewables transferred the 150-megawatt Casecnan hydroelectric project to the Philippine government in December 2021, following a 20-year build-operate-transfer agreement. This project, which combines irrigation and power generation, diverts water from local rivers through a 16-mile tunnel, supporting both the Luzon electrical grid and agricultural needs in Luzon Valley.
